Welcome to the garden. This collection is the culmination of our adventure into the wilds of the Oregon Coast: a vigorous three-year exploration into the coastal Cascade Range to harvest wild clay and study Bio-Char. Then, it was on to the coast, where a life of rugged oceanfront weather and driftwood beaches became the backdrop for experiments in Pit fire kiln making and native gardening.

During one short year of life on the beach, we built a cascading raised-bed garden, as a photography studio. We joined the local clay studio to stain and fire the work I was making. I made these pieces during a bright moment of change and awakening for both Lo and I, as we navigated paths to the foundation of our company.

These early works explore the Microverse, Life, the Universe, and humanity's relationship with the Biosphere. I call this place “The Buddhalogical Gardens”; with stone and architecture giving way to the rise of nature, life is caught in scenes of Wabi-Sabi characters with an essence of wisdom. Each piece is an icon of the natural world.

The Well of Wabi Sabi

What you've seen is more than a gallery, it's an invitation into the living world of Studio Tsubo, where ancient traditions of Penjing, Bonsai and Gong Shi meet the science of thriving ecosystems and the philosophy of the Biosphere. Each vessel is a vessel in the truest sense of the word: a Tsubo, a defined space where art, nature, and life come together.
